Marshall HS Principal is Retiring

I had 3 kids go through his tenure. My youngest is starting in the fall. Feels like the end of an era. Who do you think they will bring on board?

Probably someone who is currently an AP at another school in Region 5.

He is only retiring from FCPS. He will be a principal elsewhere. We can't keep up with salaries. Very sad.

He's been with FCPS for 30 years. I've heard teachers say you lose benefits in FCPS if you keep working there beyond 30 years.

I see that Litz is going to become the principal of Colgan HS in Manassas (Prince William County).

Were there shenanigans?

Why would you suggest that? Litz worked 30 years for FCPS. He can now retire, draw a FCPS pension, and take a paying job in another jurisdiction. FCPS incentivizes its employees to do this, and it happens frequently.

I know several people who have told me that. One was an assistant principal in a high school. One was a language teacher in a high school. The other was a middle school teacher.

All were quality personnel.
Fortunately, my DD benefited because the "retired" language teacher came and taught at her high school for a couple of years until her "time" ran out on how long she could be double dipping.

The AP subbed as an AP in several places.

The middle school teacher also subbed long term and frequently.

All said they would have been foolish not to take the retirement as they were able to make much more money this way--and keep working.

It is a huge loss for Marshall. We were hoping he would hold on until our last kid graduated. I wonder if FCPS will be able to get someone in place before the start of the school year. Hopefully, not Sondel!

I’m a teacher at Marshall. There were no shenanigans. Jeff lives in PW county and is going to “double dip” getting his retirement from FCPS and a PWPS salary. I love Jeff, but he was definitely starting to check out over the past year or two. I think he’s ready for a change. I hope we can get someone with similar values and experience - Jeff has been a great principal overall.

He had been a great principal and I hope we get someone good to replace him.

Given that Marshall is in Region 5 and Westfield will be losing so many kids when Skyview opens, I wouldn't be surprised if they give the job to one of Westfield's six assistant principals. Westfield won't be able to support that many APs going forward.

They just announced that Jay Pearson is coming back to Marshall (2004-2014) as interim. Seems like a good bet.

What do you mean by “bet”? It’s common to bring back retirees as interim principals. It doesn’t mean they’ll get rehired as full-time principals.
