My face has become rife with oily hormonal crusty zits

WTF! I am 47 and my skin is breaking out like I am a Stridex-strapped teen.

Spironolactone! Your hormones are going nuts.

I'd see a dermatologist to address but if it's useful at all, I find the Origins Clear Improvement mask to scrub to be extremely gentle and not too drying for my middle age skin but helps calm down and clear hormonal breakouts. It's not a miracle product, it won't get rid of anything overnight, but it's soothing and helps with redness and reduces inflammation. I also sometimes mix a drop of tea tree oil in with my moisturizer at night when I start to see bumps and that can reduce them. Staying out of the sun and avoiding products with a lot of fragrance or irritating ingredients helps too.

But see a doctor to address a full on break out, no over the counter products are going to get rid of hormonal acne on their own.

Are you staying hydrated? Drinking water?

I'm in my 50s and I have been able to control this problem with Differin (adapalene) gel. There were a couple weeks of mild peeling in the beginning and then my skin cleared up very nicely. I only use it in the summer since that when the acne shows up. It's a great over the counter option and it's a retinoid so it helps with wrinkles, too.

Trapical cream can cause breakout, did you start a new beauty routine?

Tretinoin for longer term prevention. Clindamycin to help heal what's already there.

I also use Peace Out patches; they're the absolute best -- they don't just suck gunk out they are otc-medicated and actually prevent things from getting to the surface if you put a patch on right away.

Agreeing with:
Spironolactone
Tretinoin
Clindamycin

Received all from my derm, covered by insurance

Definitely go to a dermatologist. Mine also said it was hormonal acne and I was prescribed lots of drugs, lights and lasers — none of it worked. Got a better derm who diagnosed rosacea and the rosacea drugs worked.

I thought I was the only one. I am 60 and still getting this!
