Looking for a resort with a body of water (beach/lake/bay), spa, water activities, and other sports (golf/tennis/pickleball/etc.). Bonus points for being located in a walkable town. Adults-focused is great, though nothing against kids so long as it's not a Great Wolf Lodge type of experience. Anything from NY to Canada is on the table. Looking for something higher end, and money isn't a concern.
For what it's worth, I've been to Salamander and Kewsick Hall, both of which we enjoyed but which didn't have quite as many activity options as we were hoping for. |
| Someone once recommended Mohonk Mountain House to me as truly spectacular place for a family to gather. I never tried it myself, but it seems like a great place to go someday! |

Chatham Bars Inn
Wequassett Inn Canyon Ranch, Lenox Woodstock Inn, VT Mohonk Mountain Resort |
Mohonk is lovely but there might not be enough there to do, unless you are really into hiking. But it does have a spa/pool. Also, it is very "old school" and evening activities were things like dancing lessons. And no TVs in the room. |
| Lodge at Woodloch has a zillion classes |
| Ocean Edge in Brewster |
We go to Brewster most summers and I love it but it is not super walkable. |

Ocean House - Watch Hill RI
Mirror Lake Inn - Lake Placid NY Would do Wildflower Farms before nearby Mohonk - offers more activities. WF is riverfront not lakefront though so water access is a bit more limited. |
| Mohonk is amazing. The lake, the hiking, the rock scrambles, tennis, croquet, there's plenty to do. The atmosphere is marvelous. |
Does Mohonk feel highish-end? And does it seem kid-centric? Hard to tell from the website. |
This is a great list. Would add Cliff House to it. |
+1. Went for a work event and was amazed at the place - absolutely stunning. |
It feels high end like old money but drive a beater car high end. So classy. Not kid-centric but plenty for kids to do (and run by Mohonk employees so adults can sip cocktails on the porch while kids whisked out of eyesight for an enriching outdoorsy thing). |
It feels like an upscale summer camp for adults (and families) to me (complimentary). |

If in the summer, my friends have gone to Tylers Place in VT and LOVED it. Sort of like a fancy summer camp for families.
I've been to Mohonk and that is a good option also. Highly recommend as well. |
