New College of Florida: ranking doubled after $100M overhaul
Once ranked 76th, now reaching past 130. Larger recruited baseball team than university of Florida, with 70 players, about 20% of the school. Highest paid university president in Florida. Unapologetic penis flashers in senior administration increased from 0 to 2. https://floridapolitics.com/archives/796008-budget-conference-senate-still-holding-out-on-usf-sarasota-manatee-funding-transfer-to-new-college-as-house-stands-firm/ https://youtu.be/jFMc07F1UUU?si=wq39V4yfBKDepaEH |
| As a former Sarasota resident and teacher, this is so sad. New College was a gem. |
| DeSantis ruined New College of Florida. Absolutely ruined it. Now he’s trying to have USF absorb it. |
| The whole school is only 350 students? That’s small for a high school. |
Small school but because of the baseball team and the salary of the new board - it spends close to $500k per kid. That's 3 times larger than UoF. The smaller public schools with less resources are closer to $60K per kid. |
|
And the best part: none of the changes have been about improving the academics or making the curriculum more rigorous. It’s truly awful since most states do not have the privilege of a strong public liberal arts college.
|
| Professors are fleeing New College. Very sad. |
Used to be much bigger. |
| DeSantis chased away all the students and professors. I'm not surprised its ratings plummeted. He was trying to kill it. |
| What kind of ranking? Isn't not ranking season anyway. That's in the fall. |
The decline started many years ago, which is why the DeSantis administration stepped in. The extreme woke model wasn't sustainable. |
Stable enough to have half the ranking. Desanctimonious and co have not improved the college. |
Yeah he ruined it so bad it’s now ranked 10 for best public in the nation and 135 for SLACs. Get a grip. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/new-college-of-florida-153704 |
135 is…awful. No one here at least is seriously considering a sub t50 lac. It’s also top 10 for public colleges that are liberal arts colleges; of which, there are…19. So yay for being above absolutely mediocre? |
