We have a 10x10 raised deck in our back yard since our yard is sloped.
Slate flooring. Brick walls. Would love to get some ideas, quotes, on how we can screen this in and maybe add a fan, etc. It does not need to be overly fancy. Any company recommendations? Any price ideas before I get too deep? I want to keep existing structure. Just adding a roof and screen it in. |
| $5500 |
| Does it already have a roof? I’m confused. |
|
Adding a roof to a deck is like putting up an addition. It’s like $30k. It needs to be structural to handle wind, snow, etc.
Being raised makes it worse, because there is little chance it’s strong enough so you will tear up to build some kind of foundation. |
| It likely doesn't have the supports to add a roof. Roofs are heavy. It will probably need to be torn down and remade. Quotes will probably be close to $100k. |
This! It's an addition, OP. Not going to be a cheap or quick project. |
| Can the roof tie into the existing house for added support/weight distribution? |
| The roof will tie into your existing house roof but they will need to pour all new cement footers and tear down what you have to support the new weight. Ours was $70k four years ago. |
No. You need a specific sized concrete footers in the ground at set intervals |
| I actually think there’s a business here for someone to come up with like, retractable Florida rooms for this region. I know you can’t have a screen roof with snow, but maybe if it retracted? |
Apparently this area has strict wind sheer rules for screened porches and sun rooms. |
Right but surely so does Florida? I'm thinking like a square aluminum frame where the roof would just be retractable screening. I always thought our main problem was having a roof that could hold snow. But I guess, obviously, I don't really know. |
| You can't add a roof to an existing deck. It's a complete tear down and redo. |
Me again. I got a quote four years ago and it was $90k. |
| I have a small side entrance porch and want to turn it into a mudroom--has anyone done this, have a quote? |
