Due to work and family things we can’t get a long stretch away and the only weekend we can plan is Father’s Day weekend, flights everywhere are insane and NYC and Philadelphia are $$ with World Cup. I’ll take suggestions within 4ish hours. We used to live in Richmond and have done Williamsburg a lot. Prefer city/town to heavy nature. 1 adaptable teen

Davis, WV and Canaan Valley are great if you’re looking for nature and something quiet. Lots of hiking, mountain biking, waterfalls and nature. Highly recommend!

Shepherdstown is really nice, I would say a teen might not enjoy it for more than a day, but if you add in Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, a hike up Maryland or Loudon Heights and a river adventure, then it’s doable for a family.

I’m the pp who recommended Roanoke. I used to live there and just went for a weekend with our young teen over spring break. Liberty Trust and Hotel Roanoke are great hotels in walking distance to things in town. (We stayed in a camping yurt and did some hiking, but it sounds like that is not your thing). The city market (farmers market) is fun look around for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning. It is sparse on Sunday, so Saturday is a better time to go. The Starcade was fun for hours. There is also a pinball arcade/museum right next to it and an awesome candy shop in the same building. Go up Mill Mountain and see the star. We absolutely loved breakfast at Scratch Biscuit Company.
