Why do people troll so much on this website?

Not 100% sure if this belongs in General Parenting, but:

Why are there so many trolls on DC Urban Moms? Like, of all the websites . . . why this one? How do they even find out about it? It's literally just a parenting forum! Signed, someone whose thread is getting trolled for the millionth time and is sick of it! lol

Do you mean just this particular forum or DCUM in general? Many of us click on Recent Topics and get a variety of topics rather than going to specific forums. If you have a title that is intriguing, you're going to get trolls who have nothing to do with the specific forum. At least that's what I think happens.

Why do you start so many threads? That seems like suspicious behavior to start.

People get bored and they want to see what kind of reaction they'll get. Maybe they saw a post on Reddit or similar. Maybe they are embellishing on something that did happen (like the one where her kid cried because 2 mean girls went by their house and gestured at her). I think people think it's funny to get other people riled up over something so they have to make it a bit over the top.

What's your post OP? I had a friend claiming she was being "trolled' because so many people disagreed with her and found her over the top ..that's not trolling.

This. It depends on what OP’s definition of trolling is…

Because you can post anonymously

This past week, it's been much worse than usual, maybe because the prolific troll is a bored teen who is done with school.

Usually it's not that bad.

Through the years I've been accused of trolling when posting real life situations. I've also identified with posts by other people who get accused of trolling. I have read a post I could have written verbatim and its followed with a slew of "troll" responses. I suspect there are many troll posts that get taken seriously and serious posts labeled as trolls.

People will call you a troll when they don’t agree with you or can’t handle criticisms. That is not trolling.

Use the “report” button if a post is offensive, off topic, duplicate thread, or such like. The site does a reasonable job of cleaning up hat kind of stuff.

Karen’s bickering ad nauseum is not trolling
