Does it make sense to move to Franklin Farm as a high schooler?

Worried about the rezoning. The children are already make a huge international move into high school and I don’t want them to have to change schools again.

When do these decisions come to effect?
We will be renting and probably will buy a house in a year.

The house otherwise is perfect. One will be a freshman and the other a junior.

Depending on where in Franklin Farm, your kids will be zoned to one of three very good high schools. At those ages, the kids won't be made to move schools, they'll be grandfathered in to wherever they start. The decisions will be final in July and will start in 27-28.

Yes I am mainly worried about potential moving (schools) in their high school years.
If they will be grandfathered into Oakton, then I am not worried!

If anyone has any experience like this or has knowledge to support this, I will be very grateful to hear your story!

FCPS has already said that everyone at Oakton/Chantilly/Westfield or starting Oakton/Chantilly/Westfield this coming year will be grandfathered in.

But also, OP, Skyview is going to be a great school. Don't let the Franklin Farm mamas tell you otherwise. They are all a little bit crazy.

The current scenarios are probably where things are going to land, it feels like scenario 2 has the most support. Once the boundaries are set they are not likely to change for at least 5 years, although I suspect that it will be longer for the students placed at Skyview. given the ages of your kids, they are not likely to be moved from where they start.

OP is just a troll stirring up trouble.

Don't pay the Oakton premium for a home that will be rezoned by the time you sell.

If you want your kids to go to Oakton, buy a house that is near Oakton.

Why are you worried if you would just be renting the house? If there is a rezoning you don’t like you can just rent a different house the following year.

Don't feed the troll.

Nobody is going to CHANGE HIGH SCHOOLS because of Skyview. All kids are grandfathered in to the high school they're at for this year and next year. OP is a troll.

No not a troll. Our realtor told us it might be a problem so I wanted to ask here.
Thank you for the helpful answers.
Turns out we didn’t get the house! But this is good information in case another one pops up.

There is no Oakton premium.
