Urogynecologist Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a urogynecologist that they like and trust, preferably in DC?
Dealing with urinary frequency/urgency and my gynecologist referred me to a urogynecologist. Feeling very anxious about all of this so any advice appreciated.

I've never heard of a urogynecologist before. What specifically do they treat?

Is it hyperspecific to issues that can impact both systems, like UTIs and endometriosis? Or is it broader than that?

I currently have a urologist and a gynecologist and I've often thought it would be helpful if they could collaborate but I've never found it to work that way.

This would likely be the rare physician with board certification in urology and gynecology. There may not be many, so take what you get.

I understand it to be a doctor who specializes in pelvic floor issues in women.

Who did your Gyn recommend? Usually they have a couple specialists they’ve worked with in the past and can give you at least one name

I’ve seen the uro/gyn PA at GW in the urology department and she’s great. Her name is Shirley Yancy. If you’re at all near perimenopause, she’s likely to start you on vaginal estrogen and pelvic floor therapy.

Yikes. She just puts everyone on estrogen?

This is OP. Thanks for the recs so far. My gynecologist did refer me to someone, but they are booked for months. Hoping to see someone sooner.

No, but if you have frequency/urgency due to low estrogen (i.e., genitourinary syndrome of menopause), vaginal estrogen is indicated.

I have an injury that makes driving difficult at this time, but if you know someone great I could ask someone to drive me.

Chesapeake Urology in Columbia has a nurse practitioner who specifically treats women’s urological issues. She really helped me get on track.
