Liriope invading garden bed

Anonymous
Liriope is invading my garden beds. I tried digging it up correctly today (digging deep to get the little balls) but that completely disturbed my other plants. Also I am working alone and I am not strong enough for that type of digging. Is there another way to get rid of it? If I just pull it out every time it pops up, don’t the rhizomes eventually get starved?

It’s a very tenacious plant. You could use herbicide on it if you can’t dig it out. You don’t have to get every last bit for digging to be effective. Get what you can, and just keep at it. I use my big digging fork on liriope - jam in in, jump on the bar, and then pry. If you are working in soil after a good rain the liriope will usually come out. Then tuck your wanted plants back in and water them. They should be okay.

Do you have any suggestions for tool? What kind of a digging fork do you use? Should I also get a serrated spade?
