GLP1s

Anonymous
Anyone have success in getting their PCP/GYN to prescribe a GLP1 for perimenopausal weight gain? I don't even care if my insurance covers it at this point, I have gained 20 pounds and counting in spite of regular exercise and really counting my calories. I considered an online provider but they charge a monthly fee plus the cost of the meds.

My PCP prescribed it, but my BMI was 36. Fortunately, it is now 24.

That's amazing, congratulations. Mine is not quite 30, maybe I would qualify at 30.

Yeah, it's a drug approved to treat obesity, so most doctors aren't looking to prescribe it absent a bmi of 30. But if you are close, 29.something, you might be able to get the script if not insurance coverage.

DP. Is that compounded?

I really only want the actual drug for safety reasons. Lily direct Zepbound.

my pcp prescribed it with "overweight" bmi (I forget the #) and one other issue - I had an increasing A1c (pre diabetic).

What? No.

I'm paying about $300 per month, with insurance, for Wegovy. But without insurance, buying directly from Novo, you can get it for about $500.

Which drug is your script for, who prescribed it, and how are you getting it?

My doc finally started prescribing it when I was counting calories, working out, and started talking about hot flashes.

I go to Preston's and use the compounded version. It has worked out really well and I can tailor the dose. 18 months, 70 lbs down, and I never went above the 1mL dose.

Midi is willing to use Lilly Direct.

They take my insurance for the appt, but the drugs are out of pocket (both Lilly Direct of course and their compounding pharmacy). They were willing to prescribe me at a BMI of 26. I'd like to lose 30 pounds and couldn't (was even gaining) on healthy eating and increased exercise. Hoping it will also help with lipedema.
