quickest is Old Town Alexandria, in a really nice hotel toom. It's so relaxing to lounge around at the shops and on the waterfront, and it feels like a different area.
Or a day trip to Shenandoah National Park. Or can stop just short of there and hike and/or camp at Elizabeth's Furnace. |

Kent Island or Harpers Ferry is nice if you just want a day trip. |

The Chesapeake Bay beach club is a nice, quick overnight getaway for adults. Small but pretty pool area, nice restaurant, spa. Should be less than 90 minutes from close in suburbs.
