Lice - how are we getting rid of it?

How are we getting rid of lice? I've heard pros and cons for both Potomac Lice Lady and Lice Clinics of America. Any other options?

Learn to comb carefully. Consider using cetaphil or something as well.

Comb. Often. For a long time.

Go to the Potomac Lice Lady if you really want to get rid of it. And then once you do the treatment, make sure all of your child's friends are being treated. Otherwise, they will just keep getting it. Braids up and all the lice spray through the end of the year! Also, don't assume other members don't have it if they aren't itching (including yourself). Not everyone is allergic.

Get this and treat your whole family. It actually works and is not greasy like other treatments. It kills everything and didn’t ruin anyone’s hair. We haven’t had a problem since.

We also combed through hair afterwards with the Terminator Lice Comb.

Thick white conditioner (leave in) and comb through with lice comb. You can see the lice and nits in the conditioner.
Wash everything you can and throw out what you can’t.

You can use the lice lady but she’ll basically just show you how to do it and send you home to do it daily yourself. If it’s a massive infestation, it’s worth having her do the first round.

Otherwise get th good lice comb — the metal one that gets nits. Put on lots of conditioner and comb through. With each comb, wipe it on a white tee and you will see if any come out. If any come out, trap them with tape before they climb onto something else. Comb daily for 5-7 days, then you can go down to every other day between 5-10 days. Then give it a week and do a recomb check. The nits take up to 8 days to hatch which is why you need to keep doing it.

Wash pillows, stuffies they sleep with and cat seat cover in hot water. Don’t drive yourself nuts vacuuming and everything. The lice can’t fly and they don’t live very long off a head so if they are in your rug they will die soon, but I guess I wouldn’t lay down on the rug for a while.

The kids most often get it when they put their heads together to giggle, hug or watch a phone video, or if they comb their hair in the bathroom (older girls). All the times my kids had it, I never got it, probably because I blow dry my hair all the time. The nits can’t survive the heat.

This is the only way. Get the Nix solution that is essentially baby oil and start combing. Very small sections. Do it daily for a few days. Treat the whole house if you can.

This is the best comb:

Don't use the one that comes in the Nix box, it's garbage. Get very close to the scalp. Look for those grains of sand in the hair and use the solution (it's very greasy so makes it easier to comb) and comb comb comb. At least 2-3 times and then again in a few days.

So the lice lady will require a head check on everyone in your house and then will require everyone to get treated. And then they do only one comb through. It's very good but also VERY expensive. It's not hard to treat at home, just time consuming if you have anyone with long hair or thick hair.

Speaking only for myself, I burned my house down. FIRE. I USED FIRE.

EVEN AFTER your child has no more nits or lice, wear long or medium long hair up in a braid.

Comb comb comb with a good metal comb. We then did the cetaphil treatment, which worked great. No need to use toxic chemicals that are not always effective.
