FET and insurance coverage

Anonymous
We are planning on a FET in the coming months (for #2). My insurance, federal Aetna, paid for half of my previous IVF cycles but the coverage excludes cryopreservation so we paid for everything related to that out of pocket. Has anyone gotten any insurance coverage for the FET itself? Meds? Procedure fees? TIA.

Does Aetna Federal cover half if you don't have endo or male factor?

MDIPA did not pay for the cryopreservation or the storage fees but they did pay for all the costs associated with the FET.
However, they counted it equal to a fresh cycle (and with MDIPA you get 3 IVF tries (paid at 50%) per live birth).

I have Aetna, and had to pay for the cryopreservation and storage out of pocket, but Aetna is paying for the FET and associated drugs. Many Aetna coverages only allow a max of three cycles, and they do often consider an FET a "cycle", so be careful! An FET costs way less than an IVF and has a lower chance of working. If you might do another IVF, I would pay for the FET and let the coverage remain for a future IVF cycle.

I complained about the definition of a "cycle" to my HR department and had FETs removed from the definition at my office. We self-insure, however, so this was possible.

OP here. Yes, after 2 years of unexplained OR a specific covered diagnosis. Endo or male factor aren't the only ones--tube blockage is another.

Thanks to the PP above with the advice about the cycles--that's a good point I hadn't though about!
