This seems to be becoming some sort of debate and I’m sure it’ll become some dumb political issue at some point, so just noting for the record that AI is cool and a good development

Except that it isn't ready to handle many of the tasks being given, which results in things like bad medical advice, bad legal filings etc, and the ancillary impact in terms of energy consumption, wasted water and limited employment are yet to be measured.

Basically, it is a bubble, like tulips or .com and we won't really know the potential for years.

AI is a tool. I have been working on deploying it to my agency. It’s great for some things. Will it fully replace humans? Not any time soon.

AI is a tool, it is neither bad nor good. It can certainly be used for good or ill, but so can a hammer, a computer or a car.

AI will concentrate wealth and power in the hands of a few. It will also take away your freedoms, rights and employment opportunities. It will hit the white collar professions the hardest eliminating over 80% of the jobs. Lawyers good luck.

Cars have their positives too, but they made us fat, lazy, and isolated. AI will have a similar effect on our brains.

Totally agree. I cringe when I hear friends talk about how they use AI LLMs for tasks that should be done with brain power. We’re going to see cognitive decline on a major scale if billionaires have their way.

Data centers suck and AI seems to be looking for justifications. There are billions and billions invested in AI and now it seems people are trying to protect their money not actually meet a need.

The way it’s being deployed is bad. I agree that it’s good, but it needs to be regulated.
