Finding Employment Abroad

People that moved abroad and are still working….how did you find a job in your new country and how much less are you making as a percentage basis of your previous US salary? I’m thinking about moving abroad but I don’t have quite enough assets to retire yet. At this point, I’m not sure that it is wise or even safe for me to stay in the US another 5 to 10 years in order to save enough that I can permanently retire. Especially if you have a finance background I’m curious where you decided to move and whether the employment market in the new country values any of your previous skills?

I'm in finance but on the community economic development side, so probably not what you're asking about. I found a job through networking, and my salary is the same as in the US when you do the conversion rate. I was UMV back in DC living in AU Park, but here my income is in the top 1%. I like how wealth distribution is more even here (Canada).

As advice for you, just network like crazy. It's extremely unlikely your cv will be picked out of the pile otherwise. I was also looking to move to English-speaking Europe and for those counties and Canada, they did seem to value Ivy degrees more than in the US.

Working remotely for a Job in the US. If you can do it earning USD while in a lower cost country is the way to go

It will be difficult to find work in an EU country unless you have an EU passport. Sometimes you can pick up a job at one of the US military bases in Europe.
