I like to keep my hair just below the shoulder. I have long layers and a face frame, and find that around the two month mark, my hair feels “heavy” on my head and just needs cleaning up. At the same time, I always feel a little foolish because I get so little cut off, and it really doesn’t “need” it. Of course I’m sure my stylist doesn’t mind at all, but I still often wonder if it’s some sort of psychosomatic thing at play. I went the first week of April and I’m about to make an appointment for the first week of June.
How often do you get a hair trim/cut? |
|
The shorter the hair, the more small changes are noticeable, OP.
I have hair down below my bra strap, and my daughter has even longer hair. We don't notice a few months' worth of growth. |
I guess the problem might be that I’ve never considered my hair to be short, but maybe it is! |
| I have a similar style and get mine colored. I get my roots done every 6-7 weeks and get a hair cut every other time. So I go 12-3 weeks between cuts. Try going 10 weeks and see what you think. Maybe you just need to add a deep conditioner every so often. |
| No |
| Look, I spend almost no money on anything beauty related (haircut twice a year, pedicure once a year mostly for the massage chair, no makeup, no skin products, dollar-store shampoo and conditioner) and I say, if you have the money and time and it makes you happy, do it. Who cares if it's psychosomatic? Enjoy. |
This. Shorter hair is higher maintenance in terms of cuts. |

To clarify, you don't have short hair, technically. But you have layers, and when they grow out, especially the face framing ones, it does impact the visuals, which you might be noticing unconsciously and interpreting as "feeling too heavy". Face frames need regular upkeep, that's for sure.

Yeah, but every 8-9 weeks? |
I'm guessing OP is very sensitive to her hair, which can happen. Are you on the spectrum, OP? Nothing wrong with that, but it might explain why there is a sensory component that you're very tuned into. |
| I do every 3 months or do. Also have shoulder length. |
|
I get my hair cut every two months. It looks raggedy if I wait three.
It's a chin length blunt bob. |
| That's way to much I get mine cut every six months. |
| Every 8 weeks- mine is below the shoulder but I like the layers to be fresh. |
Way too much? There's no such thing. |
