Green Hedges School in Vienna

Anonymous
Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone has feedback on Green Hedges School in Vienna. Specifically for the 3-5 year old Montessori program, how do you feel about the teacher quality? Is there a lot of teacher turnover, and do they seem pretty satisfied with working there? Any pros/cons to the school I should be aware of? How is the current Head of School and school leadership in general?

Thanks so much!

My child is a student there, but we were not there for preschool or K so I cannot speak to that. We are very happy with the school.

The current HOS is excellent but is an interim (just this year) and the incoming HOS for next year is already selected. The prior HOS was also excellent so I trust the selection process.

The main thing to know is that it's a very small school, which has both pros and cons. The people who stay are people who like that small size, and the people who want something else will look for that starting in probably 3rd to 5th grade.

Thanks so much! I’m so happy that there’s a parent here who can tell me more about the school. 😊 Can you tell me more about what you do like about the school? How is the teacher quality and teacher turnover? Do you feel students are academically challenged (like do they teach ahead of the public school curriculum level), or is it not as academically focused?

Are they still using Fountas & Pinnell for reading?

We had 2 kids go through and loved loved the montessori program. For Montessori especially it doesn’t feel so small because there are 3 classes mixed pk3-k. The head of montessori is fantastic and has been there a long time.

Thanks! Did your kids feel appropriately challenged by the Montessori curriculum?

My son had a fantastic experience at GH. He started in lower school and recently graduated. There is not a lot of turnover especially in Montessori and Lower School. A few middle school teachers retired recently. The new HoS was selected about a year ago and the community is very excited for him to start on July 1. They’re also getting ready to build a new academic building replacing an older building. I wish my child was still there to take advantage of the new space!
