DS is very petite, think 5’2” and maybe 105 lbs as a high school senior.
He’s found a few stores with adult xs slim fit shirts that fit him, and can occasionally find jeans at a single store. For most of his clothes, like khakis, suits, sweaters, athletics, etc, he just buys from the children’s section. Even a children’s size 14 can be too big. Realistically what do young adults who stay very small do when looking for clothes? Being a college student shopping in the kids section seems crazy, but he isn’t really an adult size. |
I think if children’s sizes fit him better, he should just go with that. Many stores carry kids’ clothing in nearly exactly the same styles as the adult clothing (I’m thinking of Vineyard Vines but I’m sure there are others), and the plus side is that they are much less expensive! For casual clothes, some of the stores that cater to teens have “adult” sizes that are cut a little smaller and have a larger range (American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie, H&M). Some depends on whether he is likely to grow more as far as how much he wants to spend (late bloomer vs small genetics etc). The great thing is that there is so much kids’ clothing now that is very stylish and doesn’t look childish at all.
My son has had a lot of luck with American Eagle size XS. It has allowed him to not have to wear kids sizes. Also, when he needed a suit, we found Macy’s at Montgomery Mall to be really helpful. He ended up with a button down from the boys dept but the gentleman who helped us (who has been there forever) put it all together and quickly.
Above poster again, Aeropostale on line has great khaki options that go as low as 27 x 28
Mine buys from short men’s clothing stores like Peter Manning, Ash and Erie, and Nicholas James. Not cheap stuff but they fit him.
Macy’s or Lands end children’s 16-20 sizes
