We will be in Paris for 5 days in July and would like to take one day trip to get out of the city. I’d like someplace that is less than a 90 min train ride, walkable, that would feel different than a city. Last year we went to Madrid and enjoyed day trips to Toledo and Segovia as something a little different, so I think we’re thinking along those lines.
What would you suggest for one day? It’s me and a teen — so wine tasting is not of interest but I think we’re open to pretty much anything else except hiking (maybe obvious for July heat!). |
| Versailles |
| I should have said other than Versaiiles — we’re going to do that already. |
| Giverny is nice |
| Lille has a Flemish look. Rouen has a medieval old town and an association with Joan of Arc. Both are easily reached by fast train. |
| Rheims |
+1 |
| Versailles |
| Chartres, Giverny, Fontainebleau. |
| Euro Disney! |
| Mont-St-Michele |
Mont St Michele is great but definitely well outside of OP’s 90 minute parameter for a day trip. |
And it's Michel |
| Reims, to see the amazing Cathedral and for champagne tours/tasting -- you would have time for at least 2 champagne houses. Highly recommend Ruinart, it was an increadible tour, very luxe. Reserve way ahead. Also enjoyed Taittinger. We will definitely go back for Veuve Cliquot and Pommery someday. |
| Normandy could be done in a very long day if you are a history buff. |
