My daughter is home from college and we want to go out to a nice family dinner. Our other daughter has terrible GERD and is a vocalist. She takes the restrictions VERY seriously because it messes with her vocal chords and will not stray from her dietary restrictions. She is fine with not coming but we really want her to join. She hasn't been to a restaurant (except Honeygrow where she can get plain meat with rice noodles) for six months since this started. She cannot have garlic, dairy, fatty meats, white flour, etc. etc. and is afraid to go to a restaurant because she's not sure if they will accommodate her and she misses her old favorites too much (fettucine alfredo, mashed potatoes, steak).
Any ideas for restaurants that are very accommodating or where we may be able to get a good meal that is safe for her? |

What about a Japanese restaurant?

I have GERD but everyone's individual triggers are different.
Definitely avoid Italian restaurants (red sauces, butter sauces). Sushi might be a good option but it depends on her triggers. If she isn't under the care of a doctor she should definitely see one. She has some unusual restrictions for GERD (white flour is a bit unusual) and it could be something underlying like celiac contributing. She also should be tested for H pylori if she hasn't already. |
| Can she take a prilosec one per day for a few days prior? This seems extremely limiting |
As someone with GERD, Prilosec doesn't really work that way or prevent flare ups for triggers. If Prilosec could work for her like that, she wouldn't be where she is now. I do find famotidine better for preventative treatment. |
| Silver Diner? Very upfront about allergies and cool with dietary substitutions. |

I’d go to Salt Line or another seafood restaurant. Your daughter could request plain broiled fish, and a plain baked potato. Another option is Planta but not sure if that would be pleasing to the entire family.
Fyi for your daughter, Rooted3 is free of top 9 major allergens and is vegan (it’s a casual lunch place). |
| Seasons 52 is very accommodating to dietary restrictions. |
| True Food would be another accommodating option |
| What does she typically eat at home for dinner? |
| +1 for Seasons 52 and True Food |

Thanks these are great suggestions. Yes it is extremely limiting and she will also not eat past 5pm. At home, she eats lean grilled meats, rice/potatoes/sweet potatoes and a few concoctions she's drummed up. She's been doing this about 6 months - we do have a GI doctor and they don't have a real solution. Tried omeprazole and famotitine which didn't do much. She now does Pantroprazole and something called Reflex Raft which helps but hasn't solved it. When she has a slight amount of a trigger food she backslides (and also has a lot of anxiety about it, obviously)

I have GERD and Barrett's. For 21 years.
The white flour is unusual. The dairy also if it is not creamy unless she also is lactose intolerant. Anyway, Broiled or baked fish, no butter. Broiled strip steak it is not fatty., no butter. Baked potato, salt pepper. Plain pasta. If tiny amounts of butter or grated cheese bother her she really should have he gastronterologist look into it If it is gassiness thstbmakes hrr belch acid ook into FODMAPS. |
| Burtons Grill! Super accommodating. |
| Maybe neutral ground in McLean. |
