HPE9 and EPF over summer

Is it wise to do HPE9 and EPF over summer before 9th? DD is doing band and also wants to add another fine arts class.

My oldest did pe9 in 9th and is now taking pe10 in the summer. This works for her partly because her birthday is so late, it’ll be a million years before she needs drivers ed.

I’m making my next kid take pe9 during the year too. It’s an easy A, doesn’t have homework and forces them to be a bit social. It also means they are moving their bodies a bit during the school day which I think is good for mental and physical health.

They will both do personal finance during the summer, not sure which summer, it doesn’t seem super hard to do no matter when

I think PE9 during the school year is kind of a rite of passage. It's a good way for kids to make new friends. My DD made one of her best friends in PE9.

My kid will be doing marching band as the social/brain break class. Also a late summer birthday so driver’s ed may be during the school year.

I think it’s worth it to do it over the summer. You know, PE isn’t the only class where you can make new friends… i’d argue it’s harder because many people may already know each other and your stuck alone on the bleachers first day. It can be awkward for kids to just randomly say hi to a random friend group. At least when you do it over the summer, you can replace it with an enjoyable elective of your choice.

PE can be the source of conflict as the kids scream at one another in overly competitive and forced teams thrown together. Plus, the health units are boring and require tests and essays. Better to knock this out in the summer and be free of all this nonsense for the whole school year.

I think a lot of kids take HPE9/10 over the summer and EPF. At our high school, most of the kids come into 9th with HPE9 and EPF done. They're quite easy and the A in GPA is quite irrelevant because most colleges screen HPE9/10 out in terms of the applicant's core subject GPA. I don't think it's an issue if your kid wants to do it and should be manageable even with band and a fine arts class.

Very doable. One of my kids did both PEs and PF over the summer and the other did just PF in the summer.
