I’m sure parents of women named “ Crystal” did not think it was trashy but it’s viewed that way now.
I like it as a unisex name, DH likes it only as a girl name. |
| I mean this with the utmost respect - if you have to ask this question, you already know the answer. |

I don't think it's automatically trashy but it's more of a risk.
I've met a couple kids named Summer in the last few years, and also know an adult Summer. None of them, nor their parents, are trashy. It actually reads as like a "rich hippie" name to me. Similar to names like Indigo, Autumn, or Sunday. I could see Winter slotting in with those. BUT the huge caveat here is that if your family is not a "rich hippie" family, it could come off all wrong. So you have to be self aware here, which is hard, because you have to think about how other people will see your family in the future when your kid is a person in the world. Tricky. This is why a lot of people just default to more popular, standard names. They aren't as risky. But they can be a bit more boring and feel less specific to you or your kid. That's the trick of naming a baby. |
| Some of the trashiest people have "normal" names. Winter doesn't scream trashy though. I knew a girl named Winston and everyone called her Winnie. |
| Winter isn’t trashy like Wynter would be; however, Winter makes me assume their personality is cold, dark, unfriendly. Which I know we don’t know when we select a name, but the connotation. |
| I don’t think it is a trashy name, but it isn’t a good name. |
| Its not trashy, Its not a boy name though. |
| It's a stupid name. Don't burden a kid with a name that's likely to be a stripper stage name. You could go with Summer too if you're really determined to make life miserable for your child. |
| One of the coolest, smartest, funniest women I know is named Crystal. Her parents were trashy, for sure, but she broke the cycle. Just as one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, one shouldn't judge a person by their name. Sure, Crystal could change her name, but that's her name. Snobs like you are easily recognized, as you turn up your nose to a cool lady who had nothing to do with naming herself. |
| ^^ and Winter is a great name for a girl or boy. |
| There’s a great song by AJR called Dear Winter. I love the song but wouldn’t name my kid that. |
| Trying too hard. |
|
I'm not a fan of calling humans by names of objects or natural phenomenon already in existence.

Oh, the DCUM striver fear of "trashy" lol.
"Winter" is not trashy. It's a little 1990-something pop star parent. It's a tiny bit trying-to-be-different, even though it is a relatively common name now. But it's fine. |

Will the baby be born in December, January or February? If so, I like the name. If not, it doesn't make sense to me
I knew an Autumn who was born in the spring, I always thought that was weird. |
