Our bathroom ceiling paint is peeling in the corners/edges after one year. Our contractor says this is from not running the bathroom fan enough - but it seems a bit unusual. I think he just used regular ceiling paint.
Any tips? Should I just sand off the peeling pieces and repaint with an eggshell finish to help block condensation? |

He may not be wrong.
Put the fan on a timer. Get in the practice of turning it on when you start the shower. Leave it run for 1/2 hour after shower. Use bathroom paint when you repaint the ceiling. |
| Well, do you run your bathroom fan every time someone takes a shower or not? Is there a window in there that is opened? It’s hard to identify the issue without these details. If you’re using your fan every time and there’s still excess moisture/humidity then perhaps your vent line is clogged or your fan is broken. I’d try to identify the issue before doing a cosmetic solution that will likely have the same issue in another year. |

I’d lean towards the wrong ceiling paint.
If you’re looking to sand and repaint, you might have to skim coat as well. We had similar peeling paint on ceiling a long time ago and I just painted over. I can still see marks. |

NP. When we repaint our bathroom, we will be using Benjamin-Moore's special Bath paint, not ordinary latex.

Agree. Some of the older fans were wimpy and we had one that didn't even vent to the outside. It vented into the attic nearby. Redid all the fans. |

It could also be that the painter did not clean the wall between the old paint and the new paint. This could cause the problem. |
| It’s most likely a moisture issue. Run the fan longer or open a window. |
This, contractor likely used regular paint. You need to specifically request this. |
This is the only correct answer. |
Not really necessary, especially if you run the fan like a pp said. |
| You need a clean surface for any paint to bond to. |
| Probably too much moisture in the room. |
| We never run the fan, though I usually shower with the door open. We generally have to repaint every 3 years. I can't remember what our handyman uses but it's definitely a special paint designed for bathrooms. Whatever the contractor who renovated our house before we bought it used was crap, it started peeping within months of moving in. |
Why don’t you run the fan?? |
