Grad party etiquette: wearing white

We are invited to several high school graduation parties in the next few weeks. I know the graduating girls usually wear white dresses. Is it ok for the guests to also wear white/ off white dresses ? Or is it like a wedding where it’s a faux pas for anyone other than the bride to wear white?

My experience is that white dresses are worn for the graduation ceremony, but not for graduation parties that aren’t day of graduation.

If it's one of the more matronly Lilly Pulitzer or similar, those are expensive and I would get some wear out of it at graduations. You are not going to be mistaken for a graduate who wears strappy short stuff, FFS.

Also, is the white dress at graduation relatively new? I never did it 30-40 years ago. Just a nice dress or outfit. Especially if robes were involved.

At my high school the girl's robes were white and not fully opaque so anything other than white looked bad. But people wore other clothes to parties that were not the same day as graduation.

I am also only familiar with white dresses at the graduation ceremony. At my kids school, the gap and gown was white and they didn’t want colors showing thru.

I went to three grad parties this time last year, and have no recollection what the young grad woman was wearing. One of the parties I wore a light colored dress with a light pattern and a wrap. From a distance it may have looked white.
