| Does anyone have positive or negative experience with private college counseling? What's their value add? |
| Recommend you search the college forum of dcum. There are numerous threads on this. |
| Not OP, but I will say that DCUM's search features aren't great so going to a different forum when you specifically want the opinions of those experiencing what you are (aka the ones here) and not finding them is extremely frustrating... |

| value add in private is less kids to counsel, however many parents wind up hiring additional college support. Sometimes counselors leave between junior/senior year, sometimes people are underwhelmed with who their kid was assigned to. |
| Key value adds are earlier support (starting freshman year vs junior year), more push for student to get involved (school counselors more likely to accept students where they are versus push them to do more), more attention to essays (students are potentially answering 20+ prompts, hs counselors don't work with the student through that the way a private counselor will). |
OP here. Thanks for this input. |

So while I appreciate you pulling in these threads, none of them truly speak to OP's question regarding how private school parents view and utilize private counselors and there experiences. |
