| I posted about my child receiving mail from U Chicago 3-4 times a month. Why was it removed? I just googled and it said its pretty common, that they are one of the worst offenders at mass mailings. But why would the post be removed? |
| I am fairly certain that the same thread was posted about a week ago or less. Beyond that, is getting a lot of mail really that big of a deal? |
Well, it wasn’t posted by me and it was an honest question. I was simply curious why a school that is difficult to get into would waste their effort and money- it’s unnecessary. And is it a big deal? Well, that could be asked of about 99% of the threads posted here. When similar threads are posted on the entertainment forum for example, typically they are locked with a link to the thread already posted about the topic. |
| Chicago mass mailings aren't universal. I have friends who are both Chicago alums, and their kid, in the same grade and at the same school as mine, got nothing from Chicago, whereas mine got something roughly once a week. I'm not aware of any other kids at this high school getting that kind of literature from Chicago. The why of it was a great mystery to us. |
Their kids might have opted out of college marketing when they took the SAT/ACT. My kids did that, and they got nothing in the mail and far less email than their friends. |
No, he hadn't opted out of all college mailings--got plenty from other schools. Jeff, it looks like there really is an appetite for a thread about Chicago recruitment efforts! |
I think the mystery has been solved. Kids who opted out of college marketing didn't get any mail from Chicago. Those, like your child who didn't opt out, received mail. Frankly, that's not much of a surprise. |
Get a life. |
That was not OP, FWIW. Regardless of the “why”, the school sure wastes a lot of money on excessive mailings and to students who have shown no demonstrated interest. |
