Lighting sources other than Visual Comfort

Anonymous
I am looking for lighting for a new kitchen and want an alternative to Visual Comfort. I don’t dislike Visual Comfort but I feel like it’s totally taken over the market lately.

Style is traditional- maybe brass lanterns but still thinking.

Any suggestions for places to look?

Urban Archeology

Quality and price point is above Visual Comfort.

Urban Electric

Nice designs and quality. Expensive - I suspect a lot of their business is to the trade.

Visual Comfort was my go to for good value until their quality fell off around the last recession.

The two brands I mentioned above are at higher price points and quality than VC.

I will say that on one of my last jobs the Visual Comfort fixtures definitely had some of their old quality.

Olde Brick is traditional and generally a lower price point: https://oldebricklighting.com/

We also bought Rejuvenation and some brands that lean more modern (Dutton Brown, Mitzi, Cedar & Moss, CB2).

We are working with a lighting designer to get a bunch of decorative fixtures & I just asked him for a range of vendors. I particularly like Currey & Co and Hudson Valley but haven't yet seen them in person. Here's his recs:

Dulles Electric has the best, most comprehensive showroom with a wide variety of suppliers (incl. Visual Comfort). We got a lot of our lighting there for a new build and were quite happy.

Serena & Lily -- though some styles are VC

I know you want kitchen lighting, but I just amazing sconces from Pooky Lighting.

Hate Currey & Co. VC is so popular because it's great if you don't want to spend a fortune.

Dominion Lighting is a store, not a brand. They carry lots of brands.
