Fun winter break trip that won’t break the bank?

Anonymous
I’m curious where you’ve traveled for Christmas/winter break from the dc metro area and would recommend?

Goals:

5-10 days

RT flights under $1k pp (bonus points if closer to $500pp)

Destination that offers fun things to do against the backdrop of an area with good vibes

Open to air/hotel packages if you’ve ever gone that route (looking for tips).

I’ve recommended Tucson in the past — we usually go in November or February but have also done December. It won’t be jot/swimming weather but it will be good hiking weather, lots of great food. It’s sometimes easier or cheaper to get a direct to Phoenix and drive the 90 minutes down to Tucson — I usually check both options for price and times. If you search this forum, I and others have posted suggested things to do.

Does it have to be the week between Xmas and New Years or do you have flexibility?

+1 I’ve celebrated Xmas in Tucson for the last 25 years. While it is not swimming weather, it is beautiful. And so much to do.
