My boyfriend seems to have a high respiration rate. I've notice that he seems to breath more than I do and looked it up at some point. I've brought it up with him and he's brushed it off. When I measure mine it is usually around 12-15 breaths a minute. His is generally 20+. How big an issue is this and should I push it more or leave it alone. He recently had a checkup. Did not ask about this but he said the doctor did not say anything about it.
Twenty is in normal range.
OP: It is often over 20. Also google says that respiration rate is not generally checked in a regular exam unless the patient has known respiratory issues or is visibly breathing hard. I may raise it again.
Check it while he’s sleeping. Anyone can voluntarily change their respiratory rate while awake. Not saying your BF is trying to do this on purpose.
Is your BF overweight?
What made you notice this? Does he also breathe through his mouth?
How is his pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation?
I just noticed him seeming almost out of breath/breathing fast. He has borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol. Doctor left it to him to decide if he wanted meds. And yes, has gained weight in the last few years.
Does he snore?
You have anxiety. If he isn’t short of breath, feels fine, and goes to a yearly physical- why are you even wondering anything at all?
Has he had an EKG?
