NewU Dual Academy?

Anonymous
I just learned about the NewU Dual Academy start up in Dupont. 11th and 12th grade, 80 college credits, earn a DC HS diploma, complete one additional year through New U and earn a 3 year bachelor’s degree. Anyone have any first hand information about this place?

Looks like a Phoenix meets Walls... idk if I would put my kid in it and I assume the prices will only be low until they start having kids regularly applying...

What does Phoenix meets Walls mean? Not familiar with these terms.

Like the university of Phoenix (so online for profit university that accepts anyone and then really milks them for money, but at the end you get a valid though not ring tapping degree) meets School without Walls which is a DC charter school on GW's campus where kids can take college classes along with their typical HS classes (really hard to get into and considered by many to be the best DC charter).

So it feels like they are smashing the two together and creating a "university" that accepts high schoolers and gives them diplomas... right now the pricing is low, but I assume that is to get kids in the door to write success stories before they milk the system. It looks like you can take classes in person or online which means they are trying to position themselves into the most premium online school for high schoolers and eventually appeal to kids outside of DC...

This sounds like an interesting HS option. How long have they been around?

Earliest mention of them I could find is June 2025...

Walls is not a charter school.

Walls is a selective magnet school that requires an application. Not surprised that pp called it a charter school, that’s an easy mistake to make.

I don't see the advantage over regular full time DE through a public school during 11th and 12th.

Also, the NewU degrees are terrible.

Why are the NewU degrees terrible?

I can't imagine those that frequent DCUM would ever send their kid to a school like this. You're better off checking Reddit if you are truly looking for first-hand information.

You could try asking in the DC Public & Charter School forum.

Is this the same team that was rejected when they applied to start a charter school?

Oooh looks like it 😬 also cringing at comparing the city kids who stay to young adults who move to the city for jobs... like do you not understand how DC functions? It isn't a critique on the public school system...

look the at the requirements for any of their degrees.

The CS degree should really be called "data for business intelligence" or something. No algorithms, no operating systems, hell no AI courses, not even an "AI for managers" one.
