Master Ballet Academy

Did anyone else see they are opening a Washington location in September?
Anonymous
No. Nobody's looking for this. It’s impersonal chain instruction. Far better options for the dancers elsewhere.

Will the studio actually be ready by September? Has construction begun?

No.

Such as? TWSB is circling the drain. MBA has a great reputation in western ballet circles.

I would not call their rep "great" - they have a few die hard fans - and a lot of reasonable people with legit concerns. They get dancers good with impressive tricks (this is not the same as technique) - but its a toxic, concerning environment. It doesn't help that the owners politics are concerning and not something I want to support. But if they follow the AZ pattern, unless your kid is one of the chosen few favorites, I would not be throwing my support behind them.

I bet they'll get at least a decent enrollment based on their social media profile. And I've seen critiques of pretty much every studio in the area so I'm sure there will always be dancers looking to move elsewhere.

I think that people should be looking at Séber Method Academy instead far better than the twsb and master

Twsb is the standard. Seber is rude. Master us chain brand garbage. Myb is cruel. Mbt is solid still. Lots of quality training in va.

As a parent with a DD who left TWSB, I can attest that the teaching at TWSB is sub-par. The upper level classes are far too large for the level of instruction and the way in which the school is run lacks professionalism. The fact that performances are optional at the upper division is ridiculous; the casual student and the serious students are expected to learn together, which drags the quality of instruction down. If TWSB wants to be a serious school of ballet, it needs to have a separate track for the more serious study of ballet, rather than lump all the children together.

We live in upper NW DC and would love a solid ballet option that is not in Silver Spring, Rockville, or NoVa. Right now, we commute to one of the ballet studios mentioned here, but would move in a heartbeat if we didn't have to drive 40 minutes every afternoon to get there. If parents work downtown, that is lot of driving, and we are also stuck at the studio for 3 hours. The distance is such that it makes little sense to drive back home. It is a drag to have to trek out to the studio 4, 5, 6 days a week, and to have to hang out in one's car, a cafe, etc., for 3 hours while your kid is in the studio.

Anyway, I'm curious to see if Master Ballet will actually pull this off. I don't see construction starting, and if they want to open in September, they needed to have started a year ago. Also, the space is small. How many studio spaces can they actually put there? They'll need dressing rooms, a costume room, gym equipment, and office, etc. Maybe they should take over the old Amazon Prime location, which is huge and just as well located.

So your kid isn't making stuff at twsb? Too bad. The instruction is world class. If your kid can't keep up or stand out in a large class, you might want to reconsider your ambitions.

What does this even mean? My child was in a class of 35 students, crammed into a studio, with one teacher. And boys are left to their own devices while the girls are on pointe. And how many of their company dancers are actually home grown from Level 4? Exactly.

The instruction has gone down hill...it is absolutely not for the serious student

TWSB students who I saw on stage this past weekend at Cinderella looked well trained and well rehearsed.
