K List

Is this a ridiculous list? Trinity, Dalton, Spence, Brearley, Chapin. Are the schools so different from one another that we should be applying for schools that are more similar in philosophy? Thanks in advance!

If that’s your full list you should make sure you’re comfortable with the risk you get completely shut out.

OP here: we are very okay with our public school as backup

Not ridiculous, just tough-extremely tough odds at all of them. If you’re happy going public and just want to shoot your shot, it’s fine.

Nope, that's the same list we had. We didn't want anywhere else. It worked out. If it hadn't, we would have gone public and reapplied later.

May I ask where your little one ended going attending?

Why no HM?

This is our list too (except with Collegiate and St B's). My child is also a late July birthday so understand we're likely to be fully shut out. I'm not interested in doing private for the sake of private, and we will try again in middle or high school if need be.

Why no HM?

Who wants their five year old schlepping to the Bronx?

OP here: HM is a bit far. We are working parents! No hate to the hill schools at all.

The bus is convenient and can be fun for the kids.

This was our list with a strong public (suburban) backup. Worked, but it felt stressful because by January, we realized we didn’t want to move but it was too late to apply more broadly. Good luck!
