When do you start using the Bumbo?

My son is 4 months - is now the time to start the Bumbo? Do people like it - it wasn't around when my other kids were young. Thanks!

I just started using it with my son who is 4 1/2 months - he loves it and it gives him options other than lying back in the swing our bouncy seat. I believe they say when your child can hold their head steady, they can use the bumbo.

I started my son on the bumbo at 4 months, and he was done with it at 4 month 1 week. He kept arching backwards or kicking the tray attachment off. There was one time when I found him nearly lying on top of the bumbo (i.e. he somehow struggled out of the seat and was almost horizontal to the ground).

I started at about 3 months but my son had freaky neck strength from birth. He loved it. My cousin had one for her daughter and was just like the PP -- kept trying to "buck" out of it so they couldn't use it.

Started around 4 or 5 months. Used it for quite a while, until he just didn't fit. He/we loved it. Gave him a different perspective, helped us a LOT on travel when we didn't have a high chair available, very easy to transport. Tray wasn't used often, but really loved the chair.

I never used a bumbo. The babies cant' move in it.
Now the bouncy seats that hangs from the doorway, that my son loved!

Since you already have kids, you know that they grow up just fine without the Bumbo.

You also know that the period of time when they can sit assisted with pillows until they sit unassisted is SO short.

It is a totally unnecessary (and sometimes dangerous!) piece of baby equipment. Save your money. Save the environment.

I started using it at 3.5 mos with DD (she has a very strong neck). I thought she would love it because she loves it when we prop her in an upright seated position, but she only tolerates the Bumbo for 10-15 minutes. Glad I bought a second-hand one.

I love mine!

4 months sounds good. We got one at 6 months and by then, my chubby baby's legs were too tight for it!

I absolutely LOVED mine. Used it for about 2 or 3 months, but it was worth it! I was a SAHM and anything that will occupy for 2 months or more is worth it to me!

I'd recommend getting a used one or borrowing someone's to try it out befopre spending the $40 or so.

Also - those door bouncy things are not good for babies' legs and hip development.
