Looking back at the sleep habits of your ASD DC...

What kind of sleeper was your ASD child as an infant and young toddler?

I think we may be the exception and not the rule, but DC has never, ever had any kind of sleep issues. In fact, I wondered (foolishly I guess, but one always hopes) if ASD couldn't be eliminated as a possible diagnosis just based on the total lack of sleep issues.

Mine was a dream sleeper until 14 months. She slept through the night at 10 weeks and never had any issues for a year after. Once she became more aware of her surroundings (she has intense anxiety, even intense for an ASD kid), sleep became a nightmare and has remained so. She is now 4.

My DC never really had sleep issues either, but definitely he has an ASD.

she must be my daughter's twin. We had EXACTLY the same situation. My daughter has very intense anxiety as well. My ASD son went through phases of staying up all night as an infant. He always required a very very strict ritual, and up to this day (he's 5 now) we have to follow it.

I know other parents who have horrid ASD sleepers, but my son was a champion sleeper. He started sleeping through the night at 5-7 weeks old...this I was NOT ready for. He still sleeps better than my NT children.

Our son literally gets up every night to come to our room. Only then will he sleep soundly.
