We acknowledge that male brain isn't done developing until 25 but still hand out the motorcycle keys, the student loans and credit card contracts, tattoos, gun licenses, voting rights, pilot licenses, military uniforms and the alcohol bottles and then act surprised when 20-year-olds act like... 20-year-olds.

Why aren't there better policies about these? Only thing I see people worried about is may be delaying commitment to relationships, no one talks about the rest. Why is that so?

School of Hard Knocks.

I get what you are saying, but teens and young men are coddled and supported (financially, emotionally, literally living with them in many cases, etc.) by their parents far longer now than in any period of human history. I’m not sure it has made them any more competent or well adjusted

You have a point. Alexander the Great was a king at 20 and conquering the world.

Men were dead by 40 too so Carpe Diem back then.

No one wants to take care of kids until they are 26. If you don’t give them adult rights you have to keep supporting them.

Many parents are now supporting their kid well after college. You think the UMC kid used to getting everything they want, goes to college and has every expense paid by Bank of Dad, then gets a 70k job in NYC upon graduating is going to be financially independent? Ha!

I'm radically accepting the idea of generational living. I know it's not the norm in the US, but the way things are going, it doesn't seem so bad to grow old with an able-bodied male or 2 in the house.

Which of these rights/privileges are you interested in pulling back?

18 yr olds (and quite honestly many 16-17 yr olds) were driving tanks across Africa and storming onto beaches of France, well aware they were likely to get blown away. Now 18 yr olds are too anxious to get their driver’s license.

This is why men suppress women…to keep us from talking about it.

The brain is very developed well before mid 20s, that is when it peaks in functioning. Then it’s all downhilll from there! What is lacking is experience. Many adults in their early 20s are very high functioning, running businesses, raising kids, working jobs with high levels of responsibility. They have the best brain function they will ever have so if they can figure out how to use it, they can excel.
