Alzheimer's Disease -- Support Group, Suggestions (cross-post)

Anonymous
A dear friend's spouse has Alzheimer's disease, and it is understandably very difficult on him as he's the sole caregiver for his wife. Would anyone have recommendations on some type of support group or maybe activity group for people with Alzheimer's disease? They are in Bethesda, so anything near would be great. I thought maybe it would be helpful if there is something his wife could attend, maybe one hour per day, such as an activity class (painting, other) to help stimulate her mind, and also offer some free time for her husband.

Thanks for any input.

I found the support meetings at Iona Senior Services to be very helpful. Iona is located just one block from the Tenleytown metro stop. Iona also has a variety of programs that I think are more sophisticated than others. I was the sole caregiver beginning at age 29 for a parent with early-onset Alzheimers. Iona also has a wealth of other resources, and so if they don't have something that is applicable to your friend's situation, I think they could point him in the right direction.

OP here ... Thanks very much, PP, I appreciate hearing from you. I'll look into your suggestion. Hopefully, I can help our friend find something relatively close to where they are (they're in their 80s, so mobility/long commuting is a realistic concern).
