| I have been a nonstop cough. Any advice?? I've tried meds, humidifier, saline rinse, cough drops, tea, bone broth.....NOTHING helps. It's allergies and a cold. |

Do not use cough drops!!!
Take plan honey. Are you coughing up mucas? |
Curious why no cough drops? (Not OP.) |
|
Sudafed.
Will dry you up and stop the post nasal drip that's irritating your throat and triggering your cough. You're welcome. |
| If it bothers you at night you can try sleeping on your side but leaning over more than you normally would (without sleeping on your stomach). Helps keep secretions from irritating the areas that trigger coughing. Sometimes getting up and standing in a hot shower for awhile works. A hot toddy can help (and some med sites suggest it)--does not require alcohol but when I have used that I include a half a shot to a shot of whiskey and I think it works better. Hot chicken broth too (not bone broth). |

Antibiotics.
Codeine Inhaler |
That's not always the cause for the cough! |

I just had a cough for about six weeks even though I only had other symptoms for about 3 days (fever).
I brought lots of cans of sparkling water to work. I swear by Hall's strawberry menthol cough drops. Many other brands and flavors don't work for me at all. Like any flavor of Ricola. |
| I have a cold right now as well. I can't take Sudafed, so I'm basically suffering through, allowing it to take it's course. Tonight I might take some Robitussin (one of the ones that does not have pseudoephedrine in it). |

Agree with sudafed (the real thing, with pseudoephedrine-- it's the only non-placebo decongestant).
But also, a persistent cough can be caused by the other end of your throat, eg, silent reflux. Try some tums, or a course of PPI like zantac or prilosec. Sadly, there is no effective oral cough medicine. They've all been debunked, including codeine. The best they can do is put you to sleep. Cough drops are as effective as any other candy, which is to say, not very, but don't sneeze at the placebo effect! it's real, just psychological rather than physiological. |
| Have you tried steroids? I've had that lingering cough after a cold and the only thing that kicked it was a course of prednisone |
| Have you seen a doctor? Maybe it’s bronchitis or pneumonia. I am at the tail end of a cold and also have a cough. |
