| Every now and then there’s a post taking a shot at UMD. What’s the issue? No one’s forcing anyone to send their kid there—so why knock it if it’s a great fit for other families? I understand that some families are too ‘elite’ and have pedigrees from ‘prestigious’ universities but that doesn’t mean you should be disrespecting perfectly fine institutions. Did you all not learn manners, humility etc, at your prestigious institutions? The snobbery and arrogance is next level here. |
| Quit your crying. Are you new here? Every college takes its pot shots on this forum. No need to be so sensitive |
| I find the dissing and favoring of certain schools here very surprising and constant. The dissing of Maryland and the fanning of university of Virginia. The dissing of Emory university. All of these are fine institutions. None are at the top of the heap. They serve their purpose and should all be good fits for students to receive a good education to reach their goals. What is behind the strange remarks I don’t know. |
Like the second post - there are some "super" users here ready to **** on everything. Just ignore and move on. |
| NOVA moms, who dominate this forum, are very picky, judgmental, and “my DC is something special, not like other kids” types. They see no value in sending their kid to UMD when a plethora of less expensive in-state options exist, so they do what they’re best at: bashing schools for amusement. |
UVA is never bashed. You would think it’s Harvard the way posters here revere it. |
|
You are selectively noticing because it bothers you.
Also, funny to me that the subject is "posters constantly dissing" and then the actual posts says "every now and then there is a post" |
| Because there are a lot of insecure losers that post here. And they are so deep into college stuff they think it’s a normal thing for adults to do, which it isn’t. |
This. Plus It's Spring, time for current juniors to form their college list if they haven't already. Trying to deter prospective students from applying to UMD as it's become even more selective. Posters with kids who got into UVA needing to act they are superior to families with kids going to UMD. The people posting may have been in college in 80s and 90s when UMD was not as selective. Those posters are still stuck in the 80s-90s. |
Natives to the DMV basically do seem to think UVA is Harvard. Can not figure it out. Plenty of yokels from the backwaters of Virginia. |
| It really highlights how narrow the mindset can be—both among some who attended elite colleges and those chasing them—when they treat only a handful of “prestigious” schools as worthwhile. Ironically, higher education is supposed to broaden perspectives, yet some of these so-called educated voices come across as anything but. |
| Because it’s a crappy school in a crappy town… |
Not quite - its a good public flagship in a crappy town and crappy/worst county in MD. |
You nailed it! |
| Not sure about others, but UMD shaming exists in real life too |
