| Did any of you take a vacation during your maternity leave? I'm thinking in taking vacation in July or August. Any Recommendations on where to go? |
| With our without your baby? How old will the baby be when you go? |
|
How old will the baby be? We took one when DS was around 5 months up to a mountain town. Was nice because we could walk around with him downtown, hike with him, and just generally be outside in a nice setting.
We also spent time at our beach house, but that's a bit less relaxing. Have to be able to go inside if it gets hot, have to make sure there is no eating of sand, can't relax in the water. I mean, we enjoyed it, but I definitely wouldn't pay for that experience. |
| Be sure to send vacation photos to coworkers assuming your workload for no extra pay. |
| We went to Bermuda when #1 was about 4 months old and did the meal plan at the hotel. It was very relaxing, but it may have been another story if we waited until she was either mobile or too big for the car seat carrier. |
Why are you shaming people for taking the leave they are entitled to? Managing work flow and capacity on a team is the organization's responsibility. What an insane take. |
| Yes, it’s a great time to fly with your baby. The noise of the place will be like soothing white noise, they will sleep on the plane, they won’t be mobile yet (makes travel way more difficult). YMMV on a driving trip, though. Some babies are great in the car and some really hate car trips. |
| How long is your mat leave? You should not travel with a baby until they've had their first round of vaccinations (really, not earlier than 3 months, but I'd wait until 6 with Measles now going around). You could get away with it if its a car trip and you're staying in an AirBNB or something. But realistically, no, don't plan to do this.... being a first time parent is exhausting. You'll be recovering from childbirth. Bad idea. |
Tell me you work in a rational place and/or can't afford to quit if you are treated poorly and/or have used parental leave without... |
| I went to Ogunquit and Bar Harbor with my four month old on mat leave in August. It was lovely. |
Maternity leave is not vacation leave. Just another way you screw your employer and colleagues who have to do your job with no extra pay. |
| Have you had your baby yet? My nipples were so messed up that I couldnt wear a shirt or anything on my front. Trying to go on vacation would have been a nightmare. I would wait and see what you are up to if you haven't had the baby yet. |
So during maternity leave, women are supposed to sit at home 24/7 and do nothing but breastfeed and do housework Got it. /s Misogynist much? |
Np but it may be difficult to do anything beyond this based on experience. |
| We went to Grenada to visit my SIL, to San Antonio for a work conference for DH, and then I went to my moms house 4 hours away to stay with her for a few weeks while dh was on an away rotation. It was surprisingly a great time to travel - I went back to work at 14 weeks. I did not get any paid leave but even if I did, my boss would not have cared about the geographic location from which I was taking care of db. It was harder with subsequent dcs but trips will be more relaxed with one baby than they will until everyone is at least 3 yo. |
