Hi all — this is our second year with BSC (U17), and our first time going through tryouts as a returning player.
We received the email about “initial invitations” going out to returning players and others, and that players not selected in this first phase would be waitlisted. I’m trying to understand how this typically plays out — is it possible for a returning BSC player to not get a spot on any team? We didn’t try out elsewhere, so just trying to gauge how common that scenario is. Would really appreciate hearing from other Bethesda soccer families who’ve been through this. Thanks in advance! |
| The silence on a legititmate question like this should tell you everything. Run far away from BSC you are not in the plans, unless you have a beach house to auction |
When did you receive this email? Before or after tryouts. |
| Very few players would not get an invite back. It’s rare. We have been with BSC for a few years. Give the process time. |
| Bethesda is a weirdo club. They are lucky they are the only business in the area with so many families not willing to cross the bridge. So they abuse their clients all they want. Honestly with such bad customer service , it is up to the customer to go elsewhere. If the customer loves the terrible service, it is on them. At the end of the day, it is just a small youth soccer organization, what is so special about this club?? |
You do realize it's also an age change year, so there's more of a shake up than usual. |
| On my daughter's previous BSC teams, some players have definitely not received any invitation. |
That about sums it up. Most BSC families tolerate the incompetence because of FOMO or convenience. I could put up with the incompetence if the arrogance was not so strong. -Outgoing BSC family on a BSC 1st team with a 1st team offer for next year to preempt the folks who think we are just sour grapes. |
|
Couldn't say it better myself.
-former BSC family on a BSC 1st team, with a 1st team offer before leaving for kinder and equally competitive pastures a year ago, no grapes too on this branch. |
| Massive shake up this year in every club. Most age groups will be getting anywhere from 1 to maybe 5 players who will be older, faster and more athletic. That would stack up those teams come fall time. So I can see why some players have been guaranteed a spot and others haven’t . |

We left this club for this same reason. Never looked back. 1st team family.
If you are still putting up with this, I feel sorry for you. If you are a top player on the top team, you have options. LEAVE AND SHOW THEM YOU DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF YOUR PLAYER. They love to keep you waiting and putting you in a situation where you don't have leverage. Like the original poster here who has no leverage now. To bad you did not go to tryouts at other clubs. Too late now. |
| Problem is, BSC is the big club in the area, and not many choices for players. |
. at Its not too late if you are 1st team player who plays regularly to switch unless you are switching to VDA. If you're in MD already, makes sense to take a look at MDU, McClean GA, FVU and Arlington. No super teams at any of these clubs 2013 FVU excluded, so you should get a fair shot to practice and perform with the team now and see if there is a roster spot for next year |
Of course there are so many options. Just drive up 495 North for few minutes more. |
| Thank you all for the messages - I think we will have to reach out to clubs for tryouts. The wait is disappointing and frustrating. |
