| High function autism spectrum boy. Sophomore in HS. Doing very well in school but with no social life. What kind of summer jobs (open to all through year later) is he able to do? Where to look for them? |
| Pet boarding facilities, plant nurseries |
|
Maybe something like a cashier? Scripted/predictable interactions with strangers might be best, and that’s one place where they happen.
It’s tough to find jobs under 18 though. A lot of places just don’t want to deal with hiring minors. |
Does he have a special interest? |
No. He is generally not interested in anything. After finish his school work, he just walks around inside his room, sometimes does reading. |
But he wants to be an engineer, very clearly. |

Summer camps
Lifeguard Pet sitting/dog walking Referee/umpire if any interest in sports |
| American Plant usually hires high schoolers. Contact them directly to ask. |

Shelf stocker at dollar tree
|
| Ice cream shops that open seasonally. If he is willing to do hard labor, landscapers are usually looking for help. If nothing pans out, some libraries use volunteers for returning books to shelves, etc. |
| Mine did the summer school program through MCPS for SSL hours and experience. The next summer he applied to mathnasium to be a math tutor. |
Is his ro big? I think a shelf stocker is a great idea because the before and after is very satisfying. |

Referee/umpire is a terrible idea. Kids need really sophisticated social skills to deal with parents/players/coaches.
How about a food stand job at a pool? Lots of other teens to work with and maybe make a friend, but not requiring a lot of skill. |
