My kids are suddenly complaining that YouTube has far far more sites blocked, and they are complaining (whining) that 90% of stuff is now blocked.
Related, it seems music streaming services are being blocked (Pandora recently, Spotify previously). Is this part of any new initiative? |
YOUTUBE has sites blocked - do you understand what you are saying? Youtube is a singular site. |
| Yes there was a big change. Disney plus is now blocked too. |
| You know if they dumped computers this wouldn't be an issue... |
|
Why does your kid need Spotify or Pandora?
If they need noise-canceling in order to focus, get them noise-canceling headphones. |
JFC is this a useful response or is your life so pathetic that this is the only happiness you can muster? |
Great that more stuff is getting blocked! Was there an announcement by chance you can recall? I don't remember seeing one. |
Who said they need it? Bad reading by you. |
| Yes, my daughter has also said that Youtube is blocked. Unfortunately, that includes videos that the teachers have asked the kids to watch. A lot of the game sites are blocked, too. |
Interesting that potential videos that teachers want to use are blocked, I wonder if there is a recourse for teachers to submit requests for sites to be unblocked or if the teacher has to show it in class via their computer? I went through some FCPS emails and didn't see any notice about changes to filters. Overall this seems a positive. |
| Film study kids need access to some of these sites. Blanket bans aren’t the answer. |
One can get access to film through a number of options that aren't just YouTube. |

Yes, more robust filters are in place as of the last few days. They are more aggressive in shutting down proxy sites.

I don't know for sure, but in this instance, the teacher showed it to the kids in class from their computer and we were able to access her Schoology to watch on our home computer. |
It sounds like they have also blocked a few of the things that kids were using to get around filters - such as logging into Chrome with their external google account to get around the filters. I am happy to have an honest kid who tells me these things
