Chime in here if you have taken Metformin for weight loss. Noom Med, required now by Carefirst, told me I didn't qualify for a GLP 1 until I was on metformin for 180 days. My labs are just below (5.6)
the "prediabetic" range. |
| you may be able to bypass if metformin gives you bad side effects. idk though. |
I'm up for giving it a try; the prescription was $0. I'm on day 3 and so far no side effects at 500 mg. I was instructed to ramp up to a higher dose over 4 weeks if I can tolerate it. |
| Metformin does little if anything for weight loss. |
| I am on Metformin to prevent diabetes (my A1C was just below prediabetic and have a lot of family with diabetes). I don’t have side effects from it and I haven’t lost any weight. I think the only people that lose weight on it are on the dose that might give more GI side effects (as someone with relapsing GI disease, I don’t know why anyone would purposely give themselves GI issues to lose weight but I digress). I am on the dose that prevents GI side effects. |
I have been teetering on the edge of being prescribed this due to A1C levels. Have you seen any benefits just from taking the metformin? Or just that it theoretically prevents worsened levels? |
| metformin doesn't help people lose weight. |
| Just say you are having bad GI side effects and that it didn't work for you. No need to actually take it. |
| No weight loss from metformin. On it for 2 years |
| I used it twice to help get pregnant. I didn't lose weight either time. |
