Unexpected menopause

Anonymous
I am 48, haven't had a period in several months and all of my bloodwork just came back basically saying that I am in menopause. Do I do HRT or is it fine since it kind of snuck up on me? Will it get worse? I feel caught off guard!

Don't declare menopause until you have gone a full year without a period. You could do a blood draw every day for a year in middle aged women and get a different result each time.

Come back in a year.

Don't do any hormones unless needed badly.

Do you have any symptoms? No reason to do HRT if you don’t and it seems you didn’t.

Why would you do HRT if you have no symptoms?

I have erratic cycles, night sweats, and hot flashes and I’m not interested at this point.

At 48 it’s worth having a conversation with a physician about this. HRT has preventative effects in heart disease and bone health.
