English class

My child is looking to graduate a year early, 4 years of English are required for this. I have been told, two years is not allowable. The only way to do this is summer school. Please let me know if there are any other methods. Thanks

You can take both senior and junior years of English your junior year.

Yes, 4 years of English is required. Summer school or two English classes in a single year.

But also you can take a very limited partial schedule senior year, just 2 or 3 classes if you have met all the requirements.

Ummm I would double check that. Most schools are not going to do that because in 11th grade you need to pass the English SOL and the WISE test for personal finance. They’re going to question adding English 12 to that, and I’m not sure what block it would even replace as in 11th grade you still need sequential electives and such to graduate. We would not do this at my school.

Paying for it over summer is probably your best option.

Take it summer after junior year. Multiple kids at DD’s school have done this. They went to Nova for a year and then transferred to UVA. Seems very straightforward. My DD wants the senior experience but I would support graduating early.

In FCPS ENG 111 and 112 at NOVA are consider equivalent to 12th grade English if you you do individual dual enrollment.

You aren't required to pass a personal finance test in 11th grade. A lot of seniors take personal finance.
