Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| What is it like and how does it compare to the AAP center? Is the AAP center for Springhill students Churchill Road? |
|
Historically, people have raved about LLIV at Spring Hill. The number of students that remain at Spring Hill vs. go to the Center is pretty high.
See the worksheets provided to the FCPS School Board as part of their July 2009 retreat -- these worksheets present data on the number of students that selected LLIV vs. AAP Center placement in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years. http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/legacy-content/86789J2271B7/$FILE/AttachmentA.pdf |

You may also want to use the FCPS Dashboard to get a sense of how many GT-eligible are at the school in total.
http://www.fcps.edu/fts/dashboard/10-11dashboard.html I find this gives you a better sense of what the peer group will be like, especially for schools with Local Level IV. Spring Hill's assigned center is Churchill Road. http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/designations.html |
| PP again (09:10) -- compare the "GT" totals in Dashboard with the numbers in the 09:01 post about Local Level IV. As an example, look at Spring Hill as compared to Timber Lane in Cluster 1. |
| Kids who qualify for GT at Spring Hill remain b/c of their friends or convenience to parents, not because it's as good as Churchill Road. |
If you had the choice between Timber Lane (a Title I school which until this year was on a modified schedule) and Haycock (which is reported to be one of the most desirable schools/GT centers in the county) which one would you choose? |
Do I have to sell my house? Do I have to pack? Where is my new job? How long is the commute? |
