Thoughts on McGill for an American studying sociology

How difficult is it to get into McGill’s sociology major? For Americans with experience at McGill what have been the pros and cons?

Zero hand holding. But, excellent reputation at a very reasonable price.

Amazing opportunities to interact with a truly international population in a fantastic city!

It is large and there is weeding out/grade deflation. Montreal is one of my favorite cities in the world but tragically the academic year (Sept-April) overlaps with the absolute worst weather months in Montreal (Nov-March) so there's only a couple of good months of weather. June - August is fantastique!

Not as hard as you would think due to full pay and no discounts. My kid looked into it for a different major, but ultimately decided against applying. They did not allow to double major in kid’s chosen fields - “ Faculty of Management does not allow for students registered in other Faculties to double major”. Note that this was not for a business major.

University of Ottawa is another attractive option depending on the major.

Other things to consider:
- It’s only known in specific circles in the US.
- internship in Canada will require a different type of visa. Should not be hard to get, but keep it mind.
