Our CollegeVine results - how did your DC do?

Anonymous
If you're interested in Collegevine's Prediction % vs Results, here's how they did for our DC. I've categorized them by the grouping CollegeVine provided to us, based on their % predictions, and I added the results of DC getting in. All were RD decisions. No binding ED rounds.

Reaches:

9% (medium private) - accepted
10% - denied
14% (small private) - accepted
21% - waitlist
25% - waitlist

Targets:

29% (large private, EA) - accepted with later start (spring)
30% - waitlist
34% (large private) - accepted with later start (spring)
35% (small private) - accepted
38% (large public) - accepted
64% (medium private, EA) - accepted
72% (large public) - accepted
72% (small private) - accepted
77% (large public) - accepted

Safeties:
82% (large private) - accepted
92% (large public) - accepted

Our lesson learned was fewer safeties/targets were necessary. We applied to too many schools LOL because it is so unpredictable and we didn't hir a private counselor and were confused about what was possible. All in all, we are very happy!

great results OP!

Seems like the underpredicted your DC in targets and reaches, but were right on safeties.

Thank you so much for this data point! I would love it if people posted similarly. I would have thought not to even waste the money on a 10-20% but maybe that’s bad thinking. Do you feel like your kid had an extra oomph that CV wouldn’t have know about?

Stats? Major?

My kid applied TO. None was ED, mostly EA, and 2 RD.

Reaches:
24%- waitlisted
19%- rejected
18%- accepted
5%- accepted

Target:
54%- accepted

Likelies:
80%: accepted (I would've said this was a target)
7 other schools that ranged 94-98%: accepted

Obviously she applied to too many likelies but some of them weren't ranked great (like top 150-200) but she was a dual admit with the grad school portion ranked in the top 20.

Wouldn't a 30% chance of admission be a reach, not a target? That's a low chance.

So where is she going?

Wow. Can you say the names of the reaches and the major?

DC is going to one of her reaches (medium size private)!

I was sure to put in as many accurate details as I could for her ECs/activities into collegevine, in addition to standardized test and GPA.

This is interested b/c when I put my junior's stats in, I felt like College Vine was way too optimistic on his chances.

Collegevine was pretty close for my DD.

She got into one reach of her 6. Targets did a little worse than expected. Safeties all acceptances.

That's where I am right now.
Specifically, I've got a boy who wants to go to business school, and I feel like the chances they're showing make sense for the college overall, but not for the school of business. I know it says it does take your major into consideration, but I'm not sure I believe that...

Right,I'm getting a 14% chance at William and Mary for a kid with a 3.3 and a 1270 SAT. NO WAY.
