Paris Hotels (Marriott Properties)

Anonymous
We will be traveling as a family of 4 this summer to Paris. As a Marriott member we are debating between Renaissance Paris Republique Hotel or Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel as both offer family suite that are "reasonably" priced. We are first time tourist to Paris. Any thoughts on either or any other hotel you may recommend? Trying to stay around $450 a night or less for a family suite.

I don’t know which one to choose personally, but I usually go by Google reviews and Tripadvisor forums suggestions.

I also not only check the stars, but read the actual reviews and understand the differences between the two hotels. I try not to stay in anything under 4.2 stars on Google. Decide what’s the most important feature to you.

Also check out Marriott Bonvoy insiders platform or check Reddit.

I think the opera house is more central…

I like the location of the Republique much more, it's a great area with tons of great places to eat and drink and hang out, and you are 1 minute from the Republique metro station, which has 5 lines so you can get anywhere else in the city very quickly.

The area around Opera is just sort of blandly touristy/shopping oriented, personally not my style. Although the Opera itself of course is amazing, definitely take a tour. There is a Starbucks right there also that's truly insane (my kid wanted to go and we were shocked at the interior).

But of course that's just a 5 minute metro ride from Republique.

Place de la Republique is where all big protests occur fwiw. And there are some all the time. So I'd avoid.

Yes, it's a common place of major protests- but I have actually stayed nearby 3 different times and never been one or any signs of previous protests. I think "some all the time" is a stretch. But yes it's a possibility to consider.

We stayed at Renaissance. Lovely hotel, great location. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Fast forward two weeks and I went to Paris for a work trip. We stayed in a less touristy area. Definitely not as friendly of a vibe.

I’ve stayed at the Opera Ambassador and it was really nice. If you can get the breakfast/snack concierge added, it is in the attic and there are lovely views of the city.
